Mercer & Bone · The gifting edit
A good gift starts with noticing.
The most useful place to start is an ordinary day. Think about the things someone reaches for, the places they spend time and the small rituals they look forward to.
Start with the person
A gift can make a familiar routine more enjoyable. Someone who loves an unhurried morning may appreciate something for the breakfast table. Someone who brings people together may prefer something they can share.
Choose something they’ll keep
Look beyond the occasion. Consider how an object will fit into their home, how they will care for it and whether it will still feel useful once the wrapping is gone. A piece that belongs in their everyday life can be more thoughtful than something saved for a special occasion.
Leave room for their taste
Use what you know about their colours, materials and habits as your guide. When you’re uncertain, a simple, considered choice gives them room to make it their own.
Before you wrap it, add a note about why you chose it. The detail you noticed is part of the gift.
